I am writing to you today as a network operator and a user of your products in Iraq. I would like to begin by commending the excellent performance and rich feature set of the RG-EG1510XS router. It is a very capable device with significant potential.
Following a discussion with your technical support team, we have confirmed that the router's built-in PPPoE server function currently authenticates users against a local database only, and does not support authentication via an external RADIUS server.
For network operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in our region, RADIUS authentication for PPPoE users is not just an optional feature; it is an essential requirement for commercial operations. The lack of this feature is a critical limitation that prevents us from deploying your powerful EG series routers in many common scenarios.
Here is why this functionality is critically important for our business and for the wider ISP market:
Centralized User Management: RADIUS allows us to manage thousands of users from a single, central server. Without it, we would be forced to manually manage user accounts on each individual router, which is inefficient and not scalable.
Dynamic Service Provisioning: A key function of RADIUS is to dynamically assign service profiles to users upon authentication. This allows us to control bandwidth (speed), assign data quotas, and manage session times for different subscription packages, which is fundamental to our business model.
Billing and Accounting: The RADIUS accounting feature provides detailed logs of user sessions, including data usage and connection time. This data is essential for billing our customers accurately.
Scalability and Automation: As our network grows, we need automated and scalable systems. RADIUS provides the necessary framework to grow our user base without a linear increase in administrative overhead.
Competitive Parity: This feature is standard in networking equipment from other brands, like MikroTik, which are widely used by ISPs. For Ruijie to effectively compete in this market segment, support for PPPoE with RADIUS is crucial.
Therefore, we formally and respectfully request that your development team prioritize the integration of RADIUS authentication and accounting for the PPPoE server service in a future firmware update for the RG-EG1510XS and similar models.
Adding this feature would make your EG series routers a vastly more attractive and viable solution for the ISP market. We are confident that this enhancement would lead to a significant increase in adoption in our region and beyond.
Thank you for your time and for considering this important request. We look forward to seeing Ruijie products continue to evolve and meet the needs of all market segments. Sincerely, Author: v-shaojinren@ru Time: 2025-6-24 19:42
